ADK Gateway 8 Challenge. A brand and website for a community adventure.

The ADK Gateway 8 Challenge is a community-driven outdoor adventure program inviting participants to explore the best hikes, bike rides, and paddles in Saratoga County. Five Towers designed the logo, built the brand identity, and created the website from scratch — giving the program a professional home that matches the ambition of the challenge itself.

The Situation

Who they are, and why they came to us.

The ADK Gateway 8 Challenge is a community outdoor adventure program created by Jennifer Kietzman of Corinth, NY — supported by the Town of Corinth, the Healthy Corinth Coalition, and an Economic Development Fund Grant from the Saratoga County Department of Planning and Economic Development.

The challenge invites participants to complete a combination of 10 hikes, four bike rides, and four paddles across Saratoga County, earning an embroidered patch for completing eight activities or a sticker for completing four (Gateway 8 Lite).

When the program came to Five Towers, it had no brand and no website. The challenge was ready to launch — it just needed a visual identity and a digital home worthy of the community effort behind it.

The Challenge

Building a program from the ground up.

The Gateway 8 Challenge had strong community support and a clear vision — but needed a complete brand and digital presence built before launch. Everything had to be created from scratch, and it needed to feel polished enough to represent the coalition of organizations, volunteers, and community members who made it possible.

  • No logo or brand identity — the visual foundation needed to be established before anything else could move forward.
  • No website — the challenge needed a central home where participants could learn about the activities, register, track completions, and find their name on the finishers list.
  • The site needed to serve multiple audiences — first-time outdoor adventurers, experienced hikers, bikers, and paddlers, and community members following the program’s growth.
  • The brand needed to feel connected to the Adirondacks and Saratoga County — outdoor, community-rooted, and approachable for all skill levels.

What We Did

The work, and the thinking behind it.

Five Towers built the ADK Gateway 8 Challenge’s entire brand and web presence from scratch — logo, identity, and a WordPress site designed to support the challenge’s growing community of participants.

Logo & Brand Design

A visual identity rooted in the Adirondacks.

We designed the ADK Gateway 8 logo and visual identity from scratch — a mark that feels connected to the outdoors, the Adirondack region, and the community spirit behind the challenge. The identity needed to work across the website, social media, embroidered patches, stickers, and printed materials including a rack card designed to be distributed at local trailheads, visitor centers, and community locations across Saratoga County. Welcoming to participants of all skill levels — from first-time hikers to seasoned trail runners.

Website Design & Build

A site built to get people outside.

We designed and built the ADK Gateway 8 site in WordPress — structured around the challenge’s core needs: clear activity listings for all 18 activities (10 hikes, 4 bike rides, 4 paddles) with maps, trail highlights, and historical information. The site makes registering and participating simple, whether you’re completing all eight activities or starting with four.

Membership Portal

Registration, payments, and activity tracking — all in one place.

We integrated a membership plugin to power the challenge’s participant experience end to end. Participants register and pay directly on the site, then log their completed activities through a personal dashboard. Once they reach the required number of completions, they’re automatically added to the finishers list — ordered by the date of their last completed activity. It’s a seamless system that removes friction for participants and eliminates manual tracking for the organizers.

Store & Finishers

Patches, stickers, and a place for every finisher.

The site includes an online store for challenge merchandise — patches, stickers, and any future additions — and a public finishers list where every participant who completes the Gateway 8 or Gateway 8 Lite sees their name. It turns the site into more than an information hub — it’s a living record of the community the Gateway 8 is building.

SEO Foundation

Structured for search from day one.

On-page SEO was baked in at build — metadata, schema markup for the organization and event, semantic heading structure, and internal linking across activity, registration, and finishers pages. Local SEO signals are built into the copy throughout, positioning the ADK Gateway 8 Challenge for search visibility across Saratoga County and the broader Capital Region outdoor recreation market.

What We Did

What changed after launch.

The ADK Gateway 8 Challenge launched with a brand and website that matched the ambition and community effort behind the program — clear enough for a first-time visitor, engaging enough to turn browsers into registered participants.

The site is maintained on a Five Towers hosting plan, keeping it fast and reliable as the challenge grows and the finishers list expands.
