Benson’s CARES. A mission-driven site for a community-powered cause.
Benson’s CARES is a nonprofit based in Clifton Park, NY that provides no-cost pet supplies to shelters and rescue groups across upstate New York. Five Towers designed and built their WordPress site to support donations, supply requests, and community awareness around their mission.
Who they are, and why they came to us.
Benson’s CARES is a nonprofit pet food pantry based in Clifton Park, NY. Their mission is straightforward: minimize pet abandonment by providing no-cost pet supplies — food, litter, and other essentials — to shelters, rescue organizations, and pet owners in need across upstate New York.
As the nonprofit arm of Benson’s Pet Center, Benson’s CARES had the advantage of an established parent brand to draw from. With no existing web presence of their own, they needed a site that felt cohesive with Benson’s Pet Center while standing on its own — clearly communicating their mission, driving donations, making it easy for shelters to request supplies, and building community awareness around their work.
The Challenge
Building credibility for a community cause.
The site needed to build trust quickly, make the mission immediately clear, and give visitors an easy path to act — whether that’s donating, requesting supplies, or learning more. Without a strong online presence, community awareness and donor confidence both suffer.
-
No website at all — the organization was running entirely on word of mouth and social media with no central online home.
-
Multiple audiences to serve — donors, shelters requesting supplies, community members interested in adoptable pets, and volunteers.
-
Needed to communicate warmth and community connection while remaining professional enough to earn donor trust.
What We Did
The work, and the thinking behind it.
We built the site around the four things Benson’s CARES needed it to do: communicate the mission clearly, drive donations, make supply requests easy for shelters & individuals, and give adoptable animals visibility in the community.
On-brand with Benson’s Pet Center, built for its own mission.
We designed the site to feel like a natural extension of the Benson’s Pet Center brand — similar look, feel, and visual language — while giving Benson’s CARES its own identity as a nonprofit. The result is a site that benefits from the trust and recognition of the parent brand while standing clearly on its own mission. We structured the homepage to answer the three questions every first-time visitor has: what do you do, who do you help, and how can I get involved?
Multiple audiences, one clear site.
Benson’s CARES serves donors, shelters, adopters, and individuals in need — four groups with very different needs. We structured the navigation and page content so each group can quickly find what they’re looking for without wading through irrelevant content. The pet food pantry, ways to donate, and adoptable pets sections each have dedicated pages with clear request and inquiry paths.
Giving made easy and prominent.
Donation CTAs are woven throughout the site — not just on a single donate page — so that wherever a visitor’s enthusiasm peaks, there’s a clear path to act. The PayPal donation integration is clean and frictionless, and the site makes it easy to understand exactly what a donation supports.
Adoptable pets, searchable right on the site.
We built a custom search field on the site where visitors can enter what they’re looking for — species, breed, age, and location — and get taken directly to matching results on Petfinder in a new tab. It’s a simple but effective bridge between the Benson’s CARES site and the broader adoption ecosystem, making it easy for community members to find an animal to bring home.
Structured for search from day one.
On-page SEO was baked in at build — metadata, schema markup for the organization, semantic heading structure, and internal linking across pantry, cat room, and donation pages. Local SEO signals and geographic language are built into the copy, positioning Benson’s CARES for search visibility in the animal welfare and pet supply space across upstate New York.
What We Did
What changed after launch.
Benson’s CARES launched with a site that gives the organization a credible, professional online presence worthy of the community trust they’ve built.
Donors can give in seconds, shelters can request supplies easily, and the adoptable cat room has a dedicated page that gives each animal the visibility they deserve.
The site is maintained on a Five Towers hosting plan, keeping it fast, secure, and ready for the team to update as news, events, and adoptable animals change throughout the year.
